More Jack the Ripper Suspects

Other named suspects include German hairdresser Charles Ludwig, apothecary and mental patient Oswald Puckridge, insane medical student John Sanders, Swedish tramp Nikaner Benelius, and even social reformer Thomas Barnardo, who claimed he had met one of the victims (Elizabeth Stride) shortly before her murder.

Ludwig was exonerated after another murder was committed while he was in custody.

There was no evidence against Barnardo, Benelius, Puckridge or Sanders.

According to Donald McCormick, other suspects included mountebank L. Forbes Winslow, whose own suspect in the case was a religious maniac, G. Wentworth Bell Smith. Other Named suspects who may be entirely fictional include “Dr Stanley”, and Russian needlewoman Olga Tchkersoff.

More recently, some other suspects have been named, such as Francis Spurzheim Craig, and Lord Randolph Churchill.
