Jack the Ripper Suspect – Alfred Napier Blanchard
In many major serial murder cases there have been instances of False Confessions, and this is one of them.
Blanchard was arrested in the Fox And Goose public house, Newton Row, Aston, Birmingham, on 5 October 1888 after claiming that he had committed the Whitechapel murders. He told the Landlord that he had killed six women in London.
When Blanchard appeared in court he told the magistrates that he was drunk; he’d read about the murders and claimed to be the killer. After police inquires, it was proved he was in Manchester when the Whitechapel murders occurred, and had been there for two months before his visit to Birmingham.
Conclusion: Alfred Napier Blanchard was not Jack the Ripper.
